I. Course Description
A very popular introductory to intermediate level officer safety
course designed specifically for armed officers working with violent
offenders in high-risk environments. This is an excellent course
for any officer working in a narcotics or gang task force assignment.
This course is custom-designed with separate methodologies to address
police, sheriff probation, parole or other law enforcement mission
statements. Martinelli & Associates Justice and Forensic Consultants, Inc. provides much of the Armed
Officer training for probation agencies participating In the STC
program.
II. Course Topics Covered
Comprehensive, intense, hands-on and strictly supervised training
in Use of Force, officer safety, pre-contact threat assessment,
critical decision making; body searches; arrest, control & handcuffing
techniques; firearms familiarization and contemporary combat handgun
shooting tactics (Weaver and Gunsite shooting styles); shooting
in dark with flashlight; weapon retention and disarms, edged weapons
defense; raid planning, high-risk entry and building searches.
* Level II course includes 4.0 hours of combat handgun on the
firing range and can be adapted to allow for advanced techniques
training. Prerequisite for Level II is completion of a Level I
class.
* A significant portion of this course involves participation
in actual raid planning and building entries with "Shoot / Don't
Shoot" scenarios. " Participants will use a progression of plastic
projectiles, paintball and FX (special effects) Simulation projectiles,
against "assailant" instructors under induced stress.

Armed peace officers and supervisors.
IV. Performance Objectives
- Understand and articulate state and constitutional Use of
Force guidelines and department policies relating to all levels
of force orally and in writing.
- Identify the most common patterns of armed and improvised
weapons assaults against officers. Understand basic officer
safety, contact & cover and threat assessment concepts.
- Become proficient in arrest, control, handcuffing and searching
techniques. Be able to use those techniques against passive
to moderately resistive subjects.
- Become thoroughly familiar with your duty weapon. Be able
to clear malfunctions and reload in stressful situations.
- Understand and become proficient in contemporary combat shoot
techniques (Weaver and Gunsite-styles).
- Develop effective, controlled responses while under stress,
through participation in various simulated "Shoot, Don't Shoot"
scenarios.
- Understand basic raid tactics. Be able to design a plan for
a building entry/search and deploy personnel in a tactical entry
operation in a safe manner.
