INTEGRAL FORCE TRAINING - "INTEGRATED FORCE"
(8.0 Hours)

I. Course Description
An informative, dynamic and hands-on force management course designed to introduce and update field and Institution officers in various officer safety and non-lethal defensive force techniques.

II. Course Topics Covered
Use of Force case law and legal guidelines, pre-contact threat assessment, contact & cover, teamwork; Tactical (verbal) Negotiation & Conflict Resolution; body searches, search & seizure; concealable weapons; arrest, control & restraint tactics; chemical agents & OC spray update; introduction to Unarmed Defensive Tactics (UDT) for standing assaults, and weapon retention (OC/handgun).

Course emphasizes hands-on practice, contemporary officer safety tactics, critical decision making under stress and the integration and transition through various non-lethal force option during critical incidents.

Officers will participate in numerous realistic, stress-induced scenarios and develop important self-defense skills and tactics. This is an excellent course for all field and institution personnel.

Must have already completed a Basic Chemical Agents/OC course per 1240, and an 8-hour Arrest, Control, & Restraint Tactics Course produced by Martinelli & Associates Justice and Forensic Consultants, Inc.

V. Performance Objectives

  1. Articulate a legal and reasonable use of defensive force within state and constitutional guidelines. Be able to successfully integrate and transition through various levels of defensive force during critical incidents and personal assaults.
  2. Demonstrate basic officer safety principals and tactics during high-risk contacts. Employ tactical negotiation and alternative safety options prior to using higher level force tactics, if possible.
  3. Articulate the dynamics and use of OC pepper spray, physiological and psychological effects of the chemical agent and situations where OC pepper spray use may not be appropriate.
  4. Deploy OC pepper spray safety during realistic, stress-induced institution and field scenarios.
  5. Demonstrate proper use of various arrest, control, and mechanical restraint and searching techniques against passive to moderately resistive subjects.
  6. Use basic Unarmed Defensive Tactics (UDT) blocking and striking techniques when attached from the front, side, and rear standing positions.
  7. Write a report and orally articulate your use of OC pepper spray or other force option following a defensive force incident.

Tuition: Depends on travel costs*
* Tuition costs per student significantly lower if agency provides an Assistant Instructor who has completed the Martinelli Assistant ACT AI Instructor course.
