I. Course Description
A 16.0-hour course for juvenile institution and field probation
officers addressing Tactical Negotiation to reduce conflict and
aggression from clients, along with simple body searching, control
hold handcuffing techniques (Arrest & Control Tactics (ACT)).
II. Course Topics Covered
Officer safety and threat assessment, verbal skills and techniques
needed in a law enforcement environment to generate voluntary
compliance; body quadrant searches, physical control holds and
proper operation of handcuffs and various restraints. All training
techniques taught are simple and very effective for all sizes
of officers.
Course includes a special section on manufactured, improvised
and concealable weapon familiarization. Participants are involved
in significant hands-on practice and are evaluated for competency
during realistic scenarios. Competency documentation provided
by trainers.

Articulate
a legal and reasonable use of defensive force within state and
constitutional guidelines.

Demonstrate
basic officer safety principals and tactics during high-risk
contacts. Employ tactical negotiation and alternative safety
options prior to using arrest, control, and restraint tactics

Employ
various verbal skills and techniques to diffuse anger and generate
voluntary compliance.

Identify
common locations for concealment of weapons and be able to recognize
the presence of weapons and contraband on the body and recover
same

Demonstrate
contemporary physical control and restraint holds and techniques.
Recognize subject countermeasures and be able to safely control
a low to moderately resistive subject.

Use
mechanical restraint equipment to include: Handcuffs, soft-restraints,
hobbles, and flex-cuffs. Be able to safely place restraints
on a subject during physical contact.

Demonstrate
proficiency of all techniques and tactics during realistic scenarios.
