USE OF FORCE: UNARMED DEFENSE TACTICS (UDT) ADVANCED TRAINING COURSE - WEAPONS DISARMS & MULTIPLE ASSAILANTS
(8.0 Hours)

I. Course Description
This is our Advanced UDT course. Participants will review basic UDT blocking and striking techniques and learn simple and highly effective UDT techniques against assailants armed with a variety of weapons (clubs, bludgeons and edged weapons) during standing and ground-based assaults.

Additional Training Covered:
Weapon (OC/handgun) retention, disarming single and multiple assailants armed with bludgeons and edged weapons. Special operations (SWAT) personnel will receive Entry/assault Counter-measure UDT techniques for defending against unarmed assailants while (officer) is armed with a handgun or assault weapon.

II. Course Topics Covered
Use of Force legal guidelines and Force Continuum; pre-contact assessment, components of contact and arrest; officer safety in field and institution environment profiles of most common assaults against officers; body mechanics and combat physiology; defenses and countermeasures against the most common unarmed standing and ground-based assaults; tactical ground fighting; weapon retention (OC canister/handgun).

This course features simple and highly effective standing and tactical ground fighting technique and has been specially designed to accommodate personnel of all ages, sizes and strength potentials.

III. Audience
General. Must be in good physical health and not have medical restrictions.

IV. Prerequisite
Must have already taken 16.0 hours of UDT training, before taking this class.

V. Performance Objectives

  1. Identify most common pattern of armed & unarmed assaults against officers in street and institution environments.
  2. Articulate a proper use of force/escalation of force in a variety of assault simulations.
  3. Develop command presence & vocal management of conflict to deter aggression.
  4. Develop effective, controlled & appropriate use of force responses under intense physical & emotional stress conditions through participation in simulated assaults.

Tuition: Depends on travel costs*
*Tuition costs per student significantly lower if agency provides an Assistant Instructor who has completed the Martinelli Assistant UDT AI Instructor course.
