RISK MANAGEMENT THROUGH TRAINING

I. Course Description
An 8.0-hour course addressing the critical components of managing
and reducing risk of injury civil litigation by adopting a preventative
training strategy. This course highlights the real agencys' need
to implement a progressive training program and how to develop
a superior management training program involving the training,
remediation and evaluation of staff personnel.
II. Course Topics Covered
Contemporary case laws regarding training, supervision, performance
evaluation and remediation. A significant portion of this course
deals with the Use of Force Continuum, force and other risk-management
training for employees, the proper documentation of force and
oral and written responses in protecting the agency and officers
against civil litigation.
III. Audience
This is an excellent course for managers, training officers and
supervisors.
IV. Performance Objectives
- Be familiar with the rapidly changing Probation field and
Corrections Environment and the increased risk factors relating
to personnel injury.
- Articulate the six major civil liability and litigation hazards
relating to job based responsibilities in the Probation environment.
- Articulate what a legal and reasonable use of defensive force
is within state and constitutional guidelines.
- List the dynamics of various use of force options.
- Explain how an organized consistent use of force training
program can enhance professionalism while significantly reducing
staff injuries.
- Identify four reasons why documentation of employee performance
is important.
